Behind The Mask

“Behind The Mask”
Oil on canvas panel
6x6 inches
Available for purchase on Daily Paintworks.com

Started from monochromatic painting using Ivory black and Titanium white.
This is such an effective way in order to get the right value.

Apply whatever the color (in this case, I used mix of Permanent rose and Ultramarine blue) thinly on the top of the first monochromatic layer after it has dried. For the background I used mix of Ivory black, Crimson lake and Ultramarine blue.

Still life set up using my black costume & the mask I wore at my dance recital on last Sunday.

You could probably guess from the title what kind of dance performance it was.
Yes, it’s Michael Jackson and I used them for “2BAD”.
I performed my favorite king of pop, MJ’s 6 dance numbers! Totally nailed it!?...well, almost!
I really love to dance as much as painting.  All my dance mates are so great and I’m having so much fun.  It’s absolutely necessary to go out dancing because pursuing art is such a solitary work, and  usually during the daytime I don’t get to talk to anybody but me which is dangerous! :). Life is a balance indeed.

Thank you for looking.
Have a nice day!

Figure study

Figure study
Charcoal on paper

This time I challenged to copy Bouguereau’s “Evening Mood”.
His way to create this kind of composition is just mesmerizing!  I’d love to see  his paintings in person someday.

Thank you for viewing.
Have a beautiful day!

Bouguereau study

“Bouguereau study”
Oil on canvas

“One has to seek Beauty and Truth, Sir! As I always say to my pupils, you have to work to the finish. There’s only one kind of painting. It is the paining that presents the eye with perfection, the kind of beautiful and impeccable enamel you find in Veronese and Titian.”
 ~William-Adolphe Bouguereau

It took me about 5 hours! (Or maybe more:) It seems so so far away to get there.  I know there is no short cuts, but work.  Just practice, practice, practice and practice!!

Thank you for viewing.
Have a great day!

I found this beautiful camellia in my neighborhood last week.
Camellias are a highly respected flower in Japan, and is often referred to as the Japanese rose.
What to paint is sometimes (or maybe most of the time:) hard to find.  Whatever it is, I’ve got to love it.  In this case, the camellia approached me first, so it went smoothly.  Lucky me:)

Thank you for viewing.
Have a lovely day!
